More recently, Breslow-Deckman have shown that LZD treatment decreases susceptibility to secondary bacterial pneumonia by decreasing IFN-γ levels in mice infected with influenza which is one of the first in-vivo studies demonstrating immunomodulatory effects of LZD and protection from secondary bacterial pneumonia though they did not use Vanco as a comparative agent or studied effects of LZD on lung injury [50].
