A direct genetic link between abnormal iron metabolism and neurodegeneration has been established in the neurodegenerative diseases Aceruloplasminemia, an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in the ceruloplasmin gene, and HF, an autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations in the FTL gene [1, 2, 10, 11, 21]. This evidence concerns the gene CP and hydrops fetalis.
