Interestingly, even though peripherin 2 was never described with changed expression in uveitis before, it is very often involved in retinal pathologies, such as adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy, pattern dystrophies, cone-rod dystrophies, retinitis pigmentosa and retinitis punctata albescens through mutations of the peripherin 2 gene [11,25]. The gene discussed is PRPH2; the disease is Rod-cone dystrophy.
