In our previous study, ALDH2 was proved to protect myocardial cells against ischemia-reperfusion injury through regulation of autophagy via AMPK- and Akt-mTOR signaling [3]; furthermore, microRNA-34a was shown to reduce the expression of ALDH2 via binding on ALDH2 mRNA in MI rats [6].
