Preeclampsia can develop into a life-threatening condition with general hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet counts, and elevated levels of free adult hemoglobin (Hb), classified as the HELLP syndrome (i.e., Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, Low Platelets) (Schroeder et al., 2002). This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and preeclampsia.
