ASNS and neoplasm: Scian et al45, 46 have reported that stable overexpression of two other p53 mutants, p53-D281G and p53-R273H mutants (corresponding to forms mutated in codon 281 and 273, respectively), can activate in the H1299 cell line the transcription of AsnS by binding to its promoter, resulting in an increase in the protein expression of AsnS. The authors propose that tumor-derived p53 mutants induce oncogenesis by transactivating growth-promoting genes such as AsnS and hTERT genes45, 46.
