sCD163 concentration is highly increased in various liver diseases characterized by inflammation and fibrosis, e.g. viral hepatitis (39) and cirrhosis (40), and, in a recent study in obese children, sCD163 was increased in children with increased ALAT, steatosis, and high pediatric NAFLD fibrosis index (41). The gene discussed is CD163; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
