ACHE and memory impairment: For example, Nelumbo nucifera seed protects the mouse embryonic fibroblast cells by inhibiting H2O2-induced cytotoxicity, and Nelumbo nucifera semen improves scopolamine-induced dementia by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity [9, 10]. Nelumbo nucifera rhizome also improves memory function by enhancing neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus of the rat hippocampus [11, 12], and procyanidins isolated from the Nelumbo nucifera seedpod ameliorate scopolamine-induced memory impairment by inhibiting AChE activity [13].
