The findings in these 7 patients combined with the positive lesional palpations detected during the physical examinations, which raised suspicions about the presence of neoplastic disease, prompted us to assess all of the patients for the presence of the following tumour markers: alpha-fetoprotein, carcinoembryonic antigen, human chorionic gonadotropin, and lactate dehydrogenase. This evidence concerns the gene AFP and neoplasm.
