Large (> 1 mm) and medium-size (200 μm-1 mm) metastases showed high expression of the proliferation marker Ki67, both in the center and at the tumor rim, and were highly vascularized, whereas micrometastases (<200 μm) stained positive for Ki67 (Fig. 5B, C) but appeared to contain fewer blood vessels or were located perivascularly.
