TGF-β, another important growth factor in wound healing and fibrosis, has also been shown to be present in peritoneal dialysate from patients (Lin et al., 1998; Yanez-Mo et al., 2003) Exposure of human mesothelial cells to TGF-β1 induced procollagen type 1 expression (Hung et al., 2003) and in rodent models, TGF-β1 administration caused peritoneal fibrosis (Margetts et al., 2005), and adhesion formation (Williams et al., 1992; Gorvy et al., 2005). Here, TGFB1 is linked to Peritoneal Fibrosis.
