In order to investigate the role of CBX7 in cancer and the mechanism accounting for the association between the loss of the CBX7 expression and a high malignant grade and poor prognosis, we decided to characterize the molecular mechanism by which CBX7 regulates the expression of its modulated-gene SPP1, encoding the osteopontin protein well known to be involved in tumor cell migration and invasion and whose over-expression is associated with high malignant phenotype [20, 21] and the presence of tumor metastases [22]. This evidence concerns the gene SPP1 and neoplasm.
