A previous study looked at the ratio of CXCR3 to CCR4 expressing lymphocytes in the lung tissue of patients diagnosed with IPF vs. non-specific interstitial pneumonitis (NSIP) and found that NSIP patients, which have a better prognosis than IPF patients had a ratio of CXCR3 > CCR4, whereas IPF patients had a ratio that was approximately even (15). Here, CXCR3 is linked to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
