In patients with vivax malaria, peripheral parasitemia correlated with the endothelial WPB products, VWF (ρ  = 0.53, P<0.0001) and Ang-2 (ρ = 0.36, P = 0.004), as well as the endothelial adhesion receptor E-selectin (ρ = 0.33, P = 0.009), and was inversely correlated with activity of the VWF-cleaving protease ADAMTS13 (ρ = −0.31, P = 0.055) (Table 4). The gene discussed is VWF; the disease is Plasmodium vivax malaria.
