TP53 and cancer: Epigenetic dysregulation at repeats is a major cancer landmark, and hypomethylated LINE repeats (normally methylated) are associated with bad colon cancer prognosis (Ogino et al., 2008); thus, p53 enrichment at LINE repeats in the colorectal cell line HCT116, might be due to cancer-associated LINE hypomethylation (Botcheva and McCorkle, 2014).
