When the effects of curcumin and THC on erythrocyte membrane-bound enzymes and antioxidant activity were examined in a streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced type 2 diabetes rat model, both curcumin and THC were shown to decrease levels of blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and erythrocyte TBARS and increase levels of plasma insulin, hemoglobin, and erythrocyte antioxidants [59]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
