Seventeen of the CRC patients who were in stages II and III had significantly higher IL-8 gene expression than healthy volunteers, considered to be free of malignancy and inflammatory colon mucosa (log IL-8: 1.035 ± 0.15 vs. 0.596 ± 0.13; p = 0.038) (Figure 4). The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
