The insulin-producing beta cells in pancreatic islets are of particular interest since they are affected in type 1 and type 2 diabetes (T1D/T2D), but detailed characterization of the transcriptome in the exocrine compartments is also of high relevance, in order to further understand digestion and the underlying molecular mechanisms of pancreatic disease, e.g. pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Here, INS is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
