In 2003, Okura et al (21) reported that a specific SNP in the mt-CytB gene (mt.15497G>A) may be associated with obesity, body size composition and regional body fat distribution in middle-aged and elderly Japanese subjects, but according to Liguori et al (22), there is no relationship between this polymorphism and obesity in adult Caucasian subjects (Table 3). The gene discussed is MT-CYB; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
