The same investigative team conducted a similar study of 66 patients divided into two groups, 20 with a benign urologic condition and 46 with bladder cancer (29 with UC, 17 with SCC) after cystoscopy and histopathology comparing urinary survivin and matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) 2 and 9, detected with gel zymography. The gene discussed is BIRC5; the disease is urinary bladder cancer.
