Unexpectedly, in the absence of IL-1RT1 signaling there was a significant increase in the size of gp130757FF gastric antral tumors, demonstrating that not only is activation of IL-1 signaling dispensable for tumorigenesis in the distal stomach of gp130757FF mice, but that patent IL-1 signaling pathways can act to restrict tumor growth in the presence of cytokine-driven STAT3-mediated gene transcription. The gene discussed is IL1R1; the disease is neoplasm.
