Finally, TXNDC5 has been proposed to act as a cellular adapter, interacting with the N-terminal domain of adiponectin receptor 1 (Adipo-R1); thus, enhancing TXNDC5 expression increases the interaction with Adipo-R1 and, indirectly, with AdipoR2 [49,50], an interaction observed in Chinese hamster ovary cells, but not confirmed in renal cell carcinoma [8]. Here, TXNDC5 is linked to hereditary clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
