Candidate-gene studies lend strong evidence that common variants in genes have strong biological links to diabetes: genes of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-r (PPARG) [7], potassium inwardly-rectifying channel J11 (KCNJ11) [8], transcription factor 2 isoform b (TCF2)[9], and Wolfram syndrome 1 (WFS1) [10].
