SERPINE1 and Hypertension: The Serpine1 gene encodes a member of the serine proteinase inhibitor (serpin) superfamily; given that this member is the principal inhibitor of tissue plasminogen activator and that plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 antagonist was reported to attenuate l-NAME-induced hypertension [21], it is possible that maternal NO deficiency regulates Serpine1 to elicit programmed hypertension.
