VEGFA and choroidal neovascularization: Until recently there have been two leading treatments for neovascular AMD which inhibit vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in order to diminish choroidal neovascularization (CNV), namely, ranibizumab (Lucentis, Genentech, Inc., South San Francisco, CA) and the off-label AMD therapeutic bevacizumab (Avastin, Genentech, Inc., South San Francisco, CA).
