We earlier identified a key role for IL-5 and IL-13 in eliciting esophageal eosinophilia6, 32 and tissue remodeling,33 which provided the impetus for the current ongoing clinical trials of humanized anti-IL-5 antibody treatment for EoE.34 However, the long-term therapy is not promising as it was initially thought. The gene discussed is IL13; the disease is eosinophilic esophagitis.
