In murine models of S. aureus catheter infection, the isogenic psm triple deletion mutant (psmα/psmβ/hld) demonstrated notably decreased infection dissemination to the surrounding tissues and the lymphatic system when compared to the wild-type strain (Periasamy et al., 2012b), confirming the role that PSMs play in the detachment/dispersal stage of S. aureus biofilm development. The gene discussed is FOLH1; the disease is infection.
