In several types of cancer including HNSCC, TGF-β is a critical regulator of not only hematopoietic stem cell hibernation in the BM [25] but also of metastatic processes, including tumor cell colonization, cell dormancy, and metastatic progression, in distant organs such as bone [18,26-28]. This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
