PGP9.5 is present in neurons, nerve fibers, and neuroendocrine cells in a variety of animal species.20 NFs are neuron-specific cytoskeletal components that allow nerve cells to establish and grow.21 Class III-β-tubulin is abundant in neuronal tissue,22 Kulchitsky neuroendocrine cells, and neuronal tumors,23 and associated with neuronal differentiation.24 But it was also reported in other cell types, such as breast cancer cells.25 Therefore, we identified nerve fibers by all the 3 markers (PGP9.5, NF, and class III-β-tubulin) stained positively.
