In conclusion this study shows signs of chronic inflammation (decreased serum anti-inflammatory miR-146a/increased IL-8) and signs of islet and vascular repair (increased HGF) in patients with a failure to control glucose homeostasis when compared to non-diabetic controls with a similar prevalence of obesity and dyslipidemia. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
