Interaction analyses indicated that meat intake selectively increased the risk of CRC among carriers of the NFKB1 del-variant allele associated with high pro-inflammatory activity and among the carriers of the ABCB1 allele associated with functional release of pro-inflammatory molecules from activated immune cells (Karban et al. 2004; Pawlik et al. 2005a, b). This evidence concerns the gene NFKB1 and colorectal carcinoma.
