Although the role of NDPK in neurodegenerative diseases has not been fully reported yet, a group from Austria found that the protein expression levels of NDPK in AD were moderately decreased, and the decreased activity of NDPK could influence neuronal processes such as neurite outgrowth and axonal sprouting by altering the expression of cytoskeletal proteins, which would in turn lead to the aberrant proliferation and differentiation of brain cells. This evidence concerns the gene DNM2 and Alzheimer disease.
