Interestingly, it was found that mutations in IDH1, ATRX, or TP53 were recurrent only in glioma-CpG island methylator phenotype-positive tumors (a phenotype probably attributable to the competitive inhibition of TET demethylases, following accumulation of 2-hydroxyglutarate caused by IDH1 mutation), while mutations in EGFR and PTEN were only observed in other tumor subtypes, which is in agreement with the pattern that we observe [32]. This evidence concerns the gene TP53 and central nervous system cancer.
