A few studies have showed that the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) participates in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (AS) process, angiotensin II(AngII) which is the main active factor in renin-angiotensin system improves the absorption of oxidized low density lipoprotein through a combination with the cell membrane of AngIIreceptor, affects fibrinolysis function of vascular endothelium and inflammation, and thereby accelerates the occurrence and development of AS (4, 5). The gene discussed is REN; the disease is atherosclerosis.
