XRCC1 and gastric cancer: JWA and XRCC1 protein levels are significantly downregulated in GC lesions compared with adjacent noncancerous tissues, whereas platinum-based chemotherapy significantly improved overall survival in GC patients with low levels of tumoral JWA or XRCC1 expression.26 Subsequent studies indicated that overexpression of XRCC1 contributed to cisplatin resistance in GC cells and showed that XRCC1 protein was important for effective repair of cisplatin-induced DSBs in GC cells.27 However, the contribution of JWA to cisplatin resistance in GC and underlying mechanisms are not fully understood.
