We previously showed that inhibition of the MEK-ERK signaling pathway induces BIM expression, and that inhibition of the PI3K-AKT pathway suppresses survivin expression, with both of these effects being independently required for tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI)–induced apoptosis in lung cancer cells positive for EGFR mutation [14], breast cancer cells positive for HER2 amplification [15], and gastric cancer cells positive for MET amplification [16]. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is breast cancer.
