In contrast to the monogenic BKS-Leprdb/db strain, which is hyperphagic, morbidly obese (60–80 g), and severely insulin resistant, with juvenile onset of diabetes [18], the NcZ10 males are not hyperphagic, and they develop a moderate obesity (35–45 g) with adult onset diabetes (plasma glucose >250 mg/dL) by 12–20 weeks of age after crossing a body weight threshold of ∼36 g.
