Recently, Neyrinck et al. [66] observed that mice fed a high-fat (HF) diet receiving curcuma extract (0.1% of curcumin) and 0.01% of white pepper (which contains piperine) for four weeks, showed increase in the body weight and fat accumulation, as well as impairments in glucose and lipid homeostasis, similarly to HF mice that did not receive the treatment, although the supplementation with these phytotherapics diminished the adipose tissue levels of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and hydrops fetalis.
