PITX3 and Parkinson disease: Currently, there are a number of transgenic mouse lines that are used to study Parkinson's disease (PD), including those in which rodent [1]–[3] or human [4], [5] tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine transporter (DAT) [6] or DA transcription factor (Pitx-3) [7] promoters have been engineered to drive expression of EGFP reporter protein expression in midbrain dopamine (DA) neurons of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) and ventral tegmental area (VTA) and in their respective terminals in the striatum and cortex.
