AKT1 and cancer: IκK kinase (IKK) is a serine threonine protein kinase located in the cytoplasm which destabilizes the IκK/NFκB complex by phosphorylation and regulates the mitotic kinase Aurora A. The direct consequence is the validation of the IKK family as crucial targets in inflammatory (rheumatoid arthritis, COPD and asthma), and autoimmune disorders as well as in cancer via the regulation of the cell cycle.
