Complementing an earlier report where CHIKV-infected Trif−/− (Toll/IL-1 resistance domain-containing adaptor inducing IFNβ; an adaptor protein essential for TLR3-mediated signaling) mice showed more pronounced viremia and joint inflammation compared to WT mice (Rudd et al, 2012), this study further demonstrated that infection of cultured primary human TRIF−/− and mouse Tlr3−/− fibroblasts resulted in a significant enhancement of virus replication. Here, TLR3 is linked to infection.
