Central nervous system (CNS) accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau and amyloid-beta proteins are pathological hallmarks of AD, whereas tau accumulation also occurs in other tauopathies such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Pick’s disease (PiD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and corticobasal degeneration (CBD). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Pick disease.
