Notably, subretinal injection of Aβ 42 peptides using C57BL/6J mouse models was found to significantly induce COX-2 expression up to 6-fold while compromising the integrity of the blood-brain barrier and inducing retinal inflammation, photoreceptor cell death and driving a progressive retinal degeneration (Dinet et al., 2013).
