PTGS2 and cardiovascular disorder: COX-1 and COX-2 are of similar molecular weight, approximately 70 and 72 kDa, and elevated production of prostanoids (the subclass of eicosanoids consisting of the prostaglandins, the thromboxanes, and the prostacyclins) from the constitutive COX-1 or inducible COX-2 is involved in the alterations in vascular function, structure and mechanical properties observed in cardiovascular diseases [68, 70-72].
