OXT and autism: Similarly, the oxytocinergic system has attracted attention for similar reasons: (i) Low plasma oxytocin levels have been observed in autistic boys [33, 34]; (ii) elevated oxytocin precursor levels in ASD children have been reported [33]; and (iii) administration of oxytocin has improved retention of social information and decreased repetitive behaviors in ASD as well as in high functioning autism (HFA) [35–38].
