We previously investigated potential metabolic pathways essential for TnT formation in mesothelioma and effectively demonstrated suppression of TnT formation using drugs that are used in the clinical setting for other malignancies, such as an mTOR inhibitor and the widely available drug metformin (Lou et al., 2012b), which stimulates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and thus indirectly stimulates the mTOR pathway as well (Zhou et al., 2001). Here, MTOR is linked to mesothelioma.
