MYC and cancer: The five genes, whose regulation may be affected by the miRNA-associated SNPs, include the pre-apoptotic gene CASP8, HDDC3, miRNA biogenesis master regulator DROSHA, MYC-family member MYCL1 and MUSTN1. CASP8 is involved in apoptosis in breast cancer cells [35], and many studies have reported polymorphisms in this gene to be associated with risks for several cancers [36], [37] including breast cancer [38], [39], indicating the importance of CASP8 in tumor development.
