Our most recent studies on the on the UV (280 nm) effects on EGF-EGFR activation of A549 lung carcinoma cells overexpressing EGFR (paper in preparation) confirm the hypothesis raised in this study that 280 nm light will most likely also change the structure/function of the extracellular domain of EGFR when present in the cell surface of cancer cells overexpressing EGFR, preventing this way EGF-EGFR binding and activation. Here, EGF is linked to cancer.
