The IL-12 family of cytokines, (IL-12, IL-23, IL-27, and IL-35), have been implicated in other granulomatous inflammatory diseases such as tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease, and a role for some of these cytokines has also been proposed in sarcoidosis (Larousserie et al., 2004; Mroz et al., 2008; Judson et al., 2012). The gene discussed is IL27; the disease is tuberculosis.
