1403C (49) is an emodin-like anthraquinone and an inhibitor of protein kinase B. The compound was active both in vitro in various cancer cell line assays and in vivo in a breast cancer xenograft mouse model where it induced apoptosis and suppressed the Akt/FOXO pathway at low mM concentrations (Xie et al. 2010; Chen et al. 2013; Wang et al. 2013). The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
